background
As the owners of a two hundred year old farm house in rural Hanover, Virginia, we have been disappointed by the lack of readily available information about historic restoration. We have had difficulty finding period appropriate building materials and qualified contractors to help with the work here, which we have been doing mainly ourselves. The work of restoring this old property has been so difficult that we find it nothing short of miraculous that any historic structure remains in America. We realize that many less dedicated property owners would have become overwhelmed with the process and favored the readily available and cheaper modern methods, which often cause serious damage to historic structures. More about Our Story
our mission
We have created this website in order to inspire and encourage other historic property owners and to provide a valuable resource providing information about every aspect of historic preservation and restoration. We intend to share from our experience for the benefit of others and our desire is to see other people in the field of historic preservation doing the same through these pages. We plan to write and publish articles written by others sharing about the how-to's of various aspects of historic preservation. We plan to create an up-to-date list of qualified contractors, lawyers and CPA's specializing in historic properties, and sources for information, building materials, and furnishings. In short we plan to create an online resource where historic property owners and curators and managers may turn to find the elusive answers to all their questions about historic preservation. Please help us to build this resource by spreading the word about our project and sharing what knowledge you have acquired.
This site is maintained completely by volunteers. We are not an official 501c3 or an organization of any sort. We are simply a group of people who are enthusiastic about historic preservation. We do not accept donations, and we are not compensated financially for the work we do to maintain this site. We are motivated purely by our desire to help save our historic resources.

Contribute to the Historic Preservation Resource
If you have knowledge about historic preservation or restoration, please consider sharing your knowledge for the benefit of the community by contributing an article or suggesting resources to list here. We are enthusiastic amateurs. It will only be possible to create a comprehensive resource for people interested in historic preservation if others in the field contribute. Working together, we can pass on the knowledge we have accumulated, and inspire the next generation to help save our historic properties.
